Poinsettias

Poinsettias are not poisonous. A study at Ohio State University showed that a child would have to eat more than 500 leaves to have any harmful effect. However the milky sap of the plant may cause mild skin irritation. You might also want to keep your pets from snacking on poinsettia leaves as eating the leaves can cause them to vomit or have diarrhoea. The showy colored parts of poinsettias that most people think of as the flowers are actually coloured bracts (modified leaves).
